Don’t ever grow up. Don’t become a bore. Don’t let the Man get you down. Okay? Cool. Then let’s do this.” – Sophia Amoruso
Feeling inspired is not something you can force. You can’t MAKE yourself hear a story and want to create greatness or look at a photo of healthy food and feel the push to eat healthy. What you can do, is allow yourself to be in a place where you are open to inspiration.
Lately, my inspiration has come from women who aren’t afraid to go after what they want. Whether they want to run an empire or be the best stay at home mom they can be, I find it all inspiring.
My new life as an intern
At 30something, I never thought I’d be an intern. That’s right, an unpaid, do the grunt work intern. But here I am, reinventing my career because my previous one wasn’t working out for me anymore.
As some of you know, I am a certified Child Life Specialist, which means I spent the bulk of my working years in hospitals with medical fragile children, providing therapeutic play, medical education, and normalizing their otherwise completely abnormal environment. The field is amazing – I was confident in the fact that I could go to work each and everyday and make a difference. But little by little, I was burning out. I adore the work I did, and feel so blessed that I got to spend as many years as I did making a true different in the lives of others.
That was who I was. I was a women who helped people. After I had Madison and Kennedy, I didn’t go back to that work and I often thought… Who am I now? My sense of self was a little shaky. I was no longer working in a field that I thought would be my life’s work, I was a mother to two little girls, and I needed some direction.
When I started The Disorganized Parent it was because I needed something to focus on, while acknowledging how difficult and chaotic parenting can be. You can everything organized to a T, but life still feels crazy. My mind is messy. How can that be possible?! With little ones, you never know which way the wind will blow, which is sometimes the best part, and sometimes the hardest.
Photography: My Newest Adventure
Discovering photography through the blog was a happy accident. More and more I started obsessed over the photos – learning new techniques and ways to incorporate beautiful images into my story. I adore shooting people, capturing expressions, and special moments in peoples lives. It was the obvious next step to begin a small business.
Currently, I am working with one of New Jersey’s premier wedding photographers. She was kind enough to take me under wing to teach me the business, while being gracious about the fact that I have children and they are my priority. Being around someone who built their business from the ground up is amazing – seeing what she did with her passion fuels me to want to bring my unique perspective to my business.
It’s critical to be who you are, not try and match who someone else is! In the upcoming weeks and months, I hope to include more of the people and things that have been inspiring me on the blog and on my social pages! Have someone in mind you find inspiring? Head over to my contact page and let me know who! I would love to support those who are doing amazing things!

Thank you to our Sponsor!
Thank you to Regina from Strand Align for sponsoring this story of inspiration. When Regina’s twins were born, her husband gave her two delicate necklaces with her boys initials on them, because she loves the personalized layered look. As a new mom, they quickly became tangled, looking messier than what she preferred. What did this amazing Mama do?! She INVENTED a way for the necklaces to lay correctly. Take a look below at the Strand Align and how it easily keeps your necklaces in line. I’ve also included some summer shots so you can see what we’ve been up to!!!
