The biggest question I am asked by people when they find out my background is: “Is my child where they should be?” My response over the years has become a little rote because talking to friends about their children can be a little tricky. All kids have a range in which they will meet their milestones so I usually tell people not to compare their kids to other people’s kids but if they are concerned to reach out to their doctor and see what they think.
I decided to come up with a basic guide that can help parents assess their child’s progress. This is not meant to be a diagnostic tool but can give a basic understand of how your children’s gross and fine motor skills progress from Birth to 5. Gross Motor skills are bigger movements that use the large muscles in your arms, legs and torso. Fine motor skills are small movements that use muscles of the fingers, toes, lips, and tongue.
